K.L.E. Society’s College of Pharmacy was established in 1968 in the pleasant environs of J. N. Medical College, Belgaum, with the aim of providing quality education in pharmaceutical sciences. The courses started with, Diploma in Pharmacy (1968) followed by B.Pharm (1975), M. Pharm (1988) and eventually the Ph.D Programmes (2000).

The College of Pharmacy is run in a spacious well-equipped building of its own with hostel, library and sports facilities. The pharmacy curriculum is approved by Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the UG programme is accredited by the NBA (National Board of Accreditation), AICTE, New Delhi.
Research programmes are in progress in the disciplines of Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacognosy, Pharmacology, Pharmacy Practice, Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology.
Dr. A. D. Taranalli is officiating as principal and the college is fortunate to have at its helm Dr. F. V. Manvi, former Principal and Co-ordinator, KLE University. They are adequately supported by well-qualified and trained staff in every department.

Every year notable contributions are made in the above fields by the institution and during the last 40 years, more than 500 research papers have been published and presented at various national and international conferences. The faculty members of the college have received more than 25 research grants and many research awards.

The college has hosted four international conferences and about 40 workshops, seminars and symposia. In the process, the college is now recognized as a quality improvement programme (QIP) centre by AICTE. Workshops are conducted annually for pharmaceutical science teachers from the regions of Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and other states of India.

The high standards maintained and the relentless quest for excellence has taken the reputation of the college beyond Indian shores. The college has signed an MOU with Rhodes University South Africa, University of Illinois (UIC) and University of Missouri (UM) at Columbia, Goa College of Pharmacy Goa for exchange of faculty and research students to conduct innovative programmes in post graduate and post doctoral reaserch. UIC and UM mainly concentrate on PG diploma in clinical research and Nano medicine.
The College has put in sustained efforts in adopting the best- available technologies to enhance the quality of the education. The College is regularly receiving grants from different government funding agencies such as AICTE, ICMR, CSIR, etc.
The College has spacious laboratories having state of the art instruments viz;, GC, HPLC, HPTLC, DSC, FTIR, Spectrophotometer, Spray Drier, Nano Particle Size Analyser, High Speed Ultra Centrifuge, Data Acquisition Systems, Flash Chromatogram, PCR, Bio-fermenter, atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS) etc. Other supporting facilities like animal house, museum, clinical research facility, research and bioavailability study centre are also available.
The Pharmacy college has its own library with more than 35 pharmaceutical journals and about 8000 books related to pharmaceutical sciences. A fully equipped computer centre with internet facility is available.
As part of its future plans, the institution is working towards international accreditation. A state-of-the-art Cell and Molecular Biology Lab, Bio-Informatics division, is envisaged to enhance the college to be on par with other international institutions. |
